NewPort Tank Containers has now signed a Memorandum of Understanding to move cargo on the UAE’s new railway network. This the latest business to sign up to use the railway network as businesses from around the world with interests in the Middle East take a great interest in the new railways in the region.
Etihad Rail is the first ultra modern railway network to near completion as countries throughout the GCC build a railway system which will soon span from the Iraqi border via Kuwait, Saudi, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman to the Yemeni border.
NewPort is a global logistics company specialising in moving liquids. The company has shown interest in the new railway network which will improve the way it can move its cargo across the region.
The UAE’s national railway network has already been completed in Stage One and tenders are out for Stage Two, with Stage 3 taking the network to a total of 1200 kms in size. Though the current railway largely carries sulphur from the sour gas fields to Ruwais, the network will eventually carry passengers as well.
