TQ, the UK Pearson-owned training provider, has opened a college in Saudi Arabia for rail technicians. The Saudi Railway Polytechnic (SRP), based in Al Qassim Province, will provide technical training as well as English language tuition. TQ will run the college in partnership with the Saudi Railways Company under a five-year contract. The first 60 students began at the college in April 2014. SRP can accommodate up to 3,000 students between the ages of 19 and 23, who complete a two-week assessment before being admitted.
Courses, which will last three years, cover subjects such as rolling stock, infrastructure, and train operations.
