The Public Transport Network Plan is approved for the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia :Saudi Arabia’s Council of Ministers have approved the integrated public transport network plan for the Eastern Province, on 19th May. The plan includes a network or light rail systems and buses.
The planned light rail network in the Eastern Province, will comprise two lines. One line would run south from Tarout Island via Al Qatif, Dammam and Dhahran to Al Khubar, the starting point for the King Fahd Causeway which connects Dammam with Bahrain, thus connecting the city of Al Qatif to Dammam. The second line would run along on King Fahd Road in Dammam northwest towards King Fahd International Airport.
It is estimated that the cost of building the integrated network will be around 16 billion US dollars.
