Our client is major player in the Railway sector in New Zealand. They are currently looking to strengthen their design teams following the release of major investments in national rail programmes. The roles are permanent, and we are looking for professionals willing to relocate to New Zealand on a permanent basis or at least for a few years.

The employer will provide relocation assistance. They are accredited as Immigration NZ Employer of Choice, which will facilitate the visa process.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Engineering Design Lead will work with the Engineering Design Manager to provide the design

services for major rail projects in New Zealand and deliver the design for these projects across the Traction & Electrical/Electrification discipline.

 

A key responsibility for the Engineering Design Lead will be the quality, creativity and on time delivery of the design component of Traction and Electrification projects. 

 

The position is a leadership role, with accountability for scoping the design and the

design outputs including liaison and working collaboratively with the Strategic Project

Directors and their representatives up front and during the design. 

 

The role will contribute to the commercial success of the overall design by effectively

managing the design to meet commercial expectations. In addition the role will

ensure design and creative deliverables are aligned with customer expectations and

delivered successfully within budget and timescales.

 

Typical systems include 25Kv Overhead Lines (OHLE), (Traction) Sub-stations, HV AC and DC switchgear, power transformers, transformer rectifiers, AC and/or DC system/equipment protection schemes and protection technology, equipment, interlocking and interfaces with SCADA, etc.

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Engineering Degree in a relevant discipline (Electrical, Power, etc)5 to 10 years’ experience as senior designer including concept development and client contact, Leading design projects from concept to completion, and working in a Rail environment.Railway Traction and Electrification design experienceExperience with relevant design software.Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography & limitations of online and offline design work.The ability to translate ideas to designers and others, influencing external and internal stakeholders.Proven track record in creating excellent brand and design work from concept to construction.Chartered status would be a plus although not essential requirement.Current Drivers Licence.
